SAIGON DELIGHT - GREAT VIETNAMESE RESTAURANT IS NOW OPEN AT GRAND INDONESIA, JAKARTA

Owned by real Vietnamese, Yeu Saigon Delight offers an authentic dining experience for those who crafting for more culinary scene in Jakarta, especially Vietnamese food. Two stores have opened at Bellagio Mall & Kemang, but now they opened at the Grand Indonesia.

It has become a fact that there is a growing market for Vietnamese food in Jakarta. We are now familiar with menu like Pho (Soup), Banh Mi (Sandwich), Vietnamese Paper roll – just to name a few. Vietnamese food may not become popular yet since the last few years, but Saigon Delight has crossed the boundaries.

The restaurant concept is casual and has a warm ambience with wood table and brown and black color chair. They have few art that hanging on the wall, to share what is the old Vietnam look like. It has a semi open kitchen whereby you could see the chef prepare your order. The menu is varied but not over extensive. When viewed from the entire menu, Saigon Delight serves food that would normally be found as Vietnamese street food.

Menu on the highlight was Banh Mi, Pho (Vietnamese Noodle Soup), Cuon/Cha Gio (Spring Rolls), Bun (Vermicelli) & Com Tam (Broken Rice). We are not in the mood for dry vermicelli & rice, so we headed to choose one of the appetizer, a bowl of Pho & Banh Mi.

As for appetizer, we choosed Goi Cuon Tom (Fresh Rolls with Shrimp). Vermicelli, lettuce, carrot, prawn, and some of Vietnamese herb then wrapped in rice paper. It was served with peanut dipping sauce. Dip in to the sauce to get sweetness and savoury balance flavor in your mouth. It was refreshing for an appetizer, however it has distinguished flavor from one of the leaves (some sort of mint or fennel or dill flavor. If you don’t have any idea how fennel taste, its kind like a mint but the fragrance is quite tricky. Not everyone like it). We asked the waiter regarding the leaf, they said it was Kinh Gioi, imported from Vietnam and independently grown in Jakarta by the owner.

Pho Bo Tai (Rare Beef Slice Noodle) is our pick from the variety of pho option. It is a light beef broth but full of flavors. It was warm and refreshing because of their Vietnamese herb like Thai basil and cilantro. Oh! We also found the the Kinh Gioi in the soup. On the other side, we also like the texture of the noodles, it felt like it was made from rice flour and a little bit of glutinous flour, so when you eat it, it’s a little bit chewy yet a little bit flaky.

Ordered the Bahn Mi Ga Nuong (BBQ Chicken Baguette), the taste was excellent! Found out that they make the baguettes fresh daily. The baguette has crunchy crush outside yet chewy and soft inside. It was spread with chicken pate on the inner baguette, slice of grill marinated chicken thigh and filled with the amount of herbs like cilantro & fresh vegetables like carrot, cucumber & radish. It is just a perfect combo. You can ask for it to be extra spicy, but beware they will use real copped chilies. We did and it was just perfect for us.

Just make sure your baguette served warm/hot for a perfect texture! We experienced that the baguette felt cold when it arrived on our table, when we bite the texture is different with the one that we normally had, we sent it back to the kitchen and after its back as warm & hot, Voila! Perfecto! If I may allow to say it, when it compares to Subway or Quinoz or another Banh Mi in another Vietnamese restaurant, this is no doubt the absolute winner!

Personal opinion: Will definitely come back for the Vietnamese baguette, in fact actually I have return many times for it.. J Happy to see their growth in Jakarta, hopefully they able to maintain their quality time to time.
