9 BOGOR'S CULINARY THAT YOU CAN EXPLORE FOR A ONE DAY TRIP!
A CULINARY TRIP TO BOGOR
Recently, we decided to
look for other area of culinary scene, as Jakarta’s culinary has already been
growth as more to a western concept, either brunch spot, coffee shop, luxury
dining, etc. There are few options to go outside the city, however I believe most
favorite will be Bandung. But after long of research, we decided to go to
Bogor. A short destination to look for a new sensation from Jakarta’s hectic.
Only 1.5 - 2 hours drive from the city center, you could find a blissful
sanctuary environment and not forget to mention traditional dish there. Yes,
Bogor was also hectic during the weekend, but at least you could find a new
sensation of traffic outside the capital city J, furthermore you could
discover the Bogor local’s famous tradition dish.
Our journey is a one
day visit to Bogor, so we started early in the morning by visiting pine forest
in Gunung Pancar, Bogor. Just take exit to Sentul and it’s the similar
direction if you ever going to Jungle Land.
1. Ameer Coffee Shop
Inside the pine forest, just near by the camping site, there
is one small coffee shop named Ameer
Coffee. This humble coffee place will accompany you while enjoying the
peaceful pine forest environment. They don’t have lots of menu, or choice of
coffee beans but we think it’s more than enough to compliment the whole
experience. After all the natural surrounding is more stand out than the coffee
shop.

We arrived there around 9 AM, but it had not open yet,
there are few kids around that will offer you Indomie, coffee, tea or coconut. We
waited for around half an hour till the coffee shop opened. After the wait, we
determined to had a cup of cappuccino before we left. They suggested us to use
Blue Batak coffee bean for our drink, it’s a robusta type of coffee. The coffee
taste its not too strong as of the overpowered milk, maybe it’s better if it
consumed as a black coffee/without milk. We didn’t order any snacks, but they
provide them like Pisang Goreng, Singkong Goreng, Fries, etc.
We continue our food journey to Surya Kencana street to have
lunch there. Surya Kencana street was famous for its culinary area. For the
first stop, we couldn’t resist to try the Soto Mie Agih, a soto mie with pork ribs. The type of
noodle they used, its similar with the one you find in Mie Ayam. The soto taste savory from the pork broth and with the
additional deep fried green onion just simply elevate the aroma. You could also
taste a little bit nature sweetness from the radish. We also tried their Bakso Goreng, the texture and flavor
were not as expected like we want as we ever experience better one.

Continuing the journey, we met a street vendor sells Wet
Spring Rolls. A motorcycle that was converted into a place to cook and prepare all
from scratch. Normally bamboo shoots are used as stuffing ingredient of the
dish. But this time, the seller uses a mixture of horseradish, egg, and bean
sprouts. Spicy flavor could be adjustable according to your buds. However, for the
taste we don’t seems to feel special about it.

4. Lumpia Basah / Wet Spring Rolls
5. Soto Kuning Pak Yusuf
After wet spring rolls, soto seems tempting to be tasted. We
have browsed the best place to try out the soto kuning. There were two options,
Soto
Kuning Pak Yusuf or Soto Kuning Pak Yusup. Very similar
name and create a confusion, and furthermore both are in the same location.
However, our choice fell down to Soto Kuning
Pak Yusuf.
Soto Komplit became one of the menu offered. The portion is large and complete
with various cut of beef. However, the taste somehow was ordinary, maybe next
time when we must go back to Bogor to taste Soto
Kuning Pak Yusup, to compare the taste. Or if you have other
recommendations, please let us know. A bowl of Soto Kuning Komplit is around IDR 80.000. The most expensive Soto we've
ever eaten with a very ordinary taste.
6. Cyrano Café
Along the way of Surya Kencanastreet, there was a small café with
adorable decoration that attracted the eyes, Cyrano Café. From the design of the café, dessert menu option looks
more dominating. Thus, we paused for here to try the dessert that they able to
offer. The choice fell on Snowy Coffee Bath. The sweetness was balanced by the
presence of one shot bitter black coffee. This place could be an option to just
rest after a weary walk in a day light.
SNOWY COFFEE BATH - IDR 29.000 |
7. Tauge Goreng IbuOmah
We were recalled with Bogor’s traditional culinary which we
hadn’t go yet, Tauge Goreng! Every
Indonesian would know this dish. Even though they called it tauge toreng/fried
bean sprouts, however no frying process in this dish, instead it was boiled.
After seeking recommendations from several websites, ultimately the
choice fell on Toge Goreng Ibu Omah. Nestled in the parking area beside an old
bread store named Bogor Permai. The
place is just a simple small stall with a seating capacity of less than 20
people. The guy heat boiling pot of bean sprouts using firewood. So be ready
that the smoke will be all over the place. The dish is simple, just boiled bean
sprouts, yellow tofu, and yellow noodle which then doused with tauco sauce. Although simple, the
flavors of it is very fresh and tasty. The tauco
sauce is savory with a slightly sour and sweet. Eat them with Mie Crackers (Kerupuk Mie) for additional crunch sensation. We will
definitely be back to get one of this, if we had a chance to visit Bogor again.
TAUGE GORENG IBU OMAH - IDR 14.000 |
8. Dailydose Coffee& Eatery
While waiting for dinner time, we spent an afternoon to visit a coffee
shop in the area Achmad Adnawijaya street,Dailydose
Coffee. The place has 2 floors, first floor has a few sofa and a bar
counter with a capacity of 3 people. We seat at the bar, and enjoyed talking
with Barista. They were very friendly to answer questions about coffee. Manual
brew menu options are available, from Dripper V60, French Press, Vietnam Drip,
Aeropress, and Japanese Ice Drip. They
have a view variety of coffee beans to choose from. If you need something to full
the stomach, several savory and sweet dish are available, just to name a
fewsuch as Quesadilla, Pasta, Fried Rice, and Pancake.

9. Sop & Sate Kambing Bang Hasan
Before returning to Jakarta, we took time to try Sop Kambing
Bang Hasan (Mutton Soup) as our
dinner menu. Besides mutton, they also provide beef as an option. We have to
waited some time for the order, because the soup broth is being heated. But
when it came, it's a champion! The soup is white like using a coconut milk, but
found out it wasn’t. This light and full of flavor soup is using milk instead.
The extra of cumin oil (minyak samin)
definitely enrich the taste and aroma. Our dinner was more complete when the Sate
Kambing arrived to the table, they served it on a hot plate with sliced
onions at the bottom. It was a delightful diner to call it a day and indeed a
boost for a very good farewell to the city of Bogor.
SOP KAMBING - PRICE VARY DEPENDS ON THE MEAT THAT YOU CHOOSE |
SATE KAMBING |
Personal opinion: Our favorite was Pepes
Sagu Bakar, Tauge Goreng Ibu Omah,
and Sop Kambing Bang Hasan. However,
Bogor still has lots to offer. We will definitely come back to look for more.
