NAM THAI KITCHEN & BAR – A NEW RESTAURANT UNDER JITTLADA GROUP
We were happened to be in the Pantai Indah Kapuk area and
decided to go and visit the newly opened mall, PIK Avenue. Not many stores
opened yet, but this particular restaurant attracted our eyes. Nestled at the
ground floor of the mall, this restaurant has unique interior design. Chic décor
at the front dining area with open bar concept. There were hanging colorful imitation
flowers at the back with few Thailand painting on the wall. It creates an
interesting atmosphere to the dining experience.
Found out it was part of Jittlada group, one of the
recognized Thailand restaurant group in Indonesia, which owns Jittlada, White
Elephant & Chandara. Thus we are expecting great food ahead of us, however
few dishes was disappointing.
Ordered 2 Soup, their Tom
Yam Goong & Tom Yam Potek. Tom Yam Goong is a Thai traditional soup
with prawn, mushroom and lemongrass, whereby Tom Yam Potek is a clear soup with seafood and hot basil leaves.
The serving suggestion for each soup is for 2 persons, but this came to a let
down when the soup arrived. They only served 1 piece of prawn for each soup,
not a jumbo one too. Luckily the Tom Yam
Potek has few pieces of squid inside. Not sure on how we can share with 2
persons. The taste? Nothing special, we believe we could get better taste for
Tom Yam soup at other Thai restaurants with the similar pricing &
environment.
TOM YAM GOONG - IDR 85.000 |
TOM YAM POTEK - IDR 90.000 |
Hoping the upcoming dish could change our perception, but not
pretty much. We tried their Thai Beef Noodle Soup/Guey Teow Nuer Sod. The taste is too sweet for our liking. The good
side is that the glass noodle is not flaky and you will find generous portion
of beef chunk.
BEEF NOODLE - IDR 75.000 |
Luckily among all, we finally taste something good. It’s their
salad and vegetables which came out slightly later after the soups. For salad,
we had Deep-fried Minced Catfish with Spicy Mango Salad/Yam Goong Foo Mamuang, they use young mango so it tastes sour yet
it fresh, however combined with the crispy catfish, fish sauce, shallot and
roasted peanuts just balance up the flavor. Believe they have this salad at
Jittlada as well. For vegetables, we had Stir-fried eggplant with Garlic, Soya
Bean, Salted Fish, Minced Chicken & Oyster Sauce/Mad Ke Yao Pad Pla Kem. All the elements are greatly mix together.
We will definitely have this again if we visit back.
DEEP FRIED MINCED CATFISH WITH SPICY MANGO SALAD - IDR 70.000 |
STIR FRIED EGGPLANT - IDR 55.000 |
Personal
opinion:
All in all, Nam Thai Kitchen & Bar offers a great Thai upscale restaurant
ambience. However not sure on their food taste delivery. We still have other
Thailand restaurant in mind that serves better good Thai food at similar price
point.
