MADERA KITCHEN – SURPRISINGLY, ONE OF A GREAT BRUNCH PLACE THAT YOU DON’T WANNA MISS!

When we talk about brunch, we expect a good breakfast food and the place should have a nice laid-back feel which sets the tone for a lazy afternoon. For us, Madera Kitchen has it! Located at the ground floor of Dharmawangsa Square, South of Jakarta, this restaurant not so big in particular but has a semi-open kitchen and living room setting with white bricks on the wall which gives coziness, warm and homey feelings.

We went there on Sunday around 12.30 AM, there were still few costumers dine in but we may not sure the situation on breakfast time, however we prefer it this way as we don’t like crowded places. We got excited after perusing the menu. There were so many dishes we wanted to try, but we eventually short-listed three menu, one salad and two main heavy menu as we were so hungry 😊

We started with the Roasted Pumpkin Salad and it far surpassed our expectations. It’s a roasted pumpkin and paprika which lay on the bed of spinach leaves with feta crumble cheese and balsamic dressing. It was heavenly good! Despite it’s a little bit greasy because of the roasted pumpkin and paprika, but instead it gives roasted flavor to the salad which is a good thing. The roasted aroma combined with the sweetness from the pumpkin, the saltines from the feta cheese as well as the sourness from the balsamic vinegar binds the overall flavors.

ROASTED PUMPKIN SALAD - IDR 65.000
Then we had the Swedish Meatball – homemade meatballs smothered in creamy gravy sauce over silky smash potatoes. Even though its look like one from the IKEA, but it tastes much better and even not comparable at all. Meatballs was so flavorful, I think they used minced onion, nutmeg and rosemary. The sauce covered the meatballs and tastes so rich and creamy as well. Oh! One more thing to highlight is the texture of the potatoes is not too thick yet not to runny and perfectly seasoned.
SWEDISH MEATBALL - IDR 75.000
Lastly, we had Salmon Steak, grilled salmon in parmesan sauce served with potato gratin and grilled vegetables with basil. When it arrived to the table, we instantly know by the look that the salmon skin is crispy. When my cutlery touching the skin layer of the salmon, it proved me right. You could hear the crackling sound! The meat inside also still lightly pink and very juicy. This tell me that the salmon has been treated well and grilled perfectly. The addition of creamy potato gratin and the grilled vegetable just completes the whole experience as a lovely dish.
SALMON STEAK - IDR 95.000
Personal Opinion: If you are staying in the area – well, even if you are not, there is absolutely no reason to not pay Madera Kitchen a visit. Madera Kitchen may not be as popular among the other brunch places, but definitely worth a visit. There were still few menus that we would like to try such as their truffle infused dish – see you again soon Madera!
